How long have you been a member of Digital Jersey?

We’ve been a member of Digital Jersey for over 5 years.

What do you like most about being a member?

– The opportunities for networking

– To be part of an island community, helping to drive digital skills and a digital economy in Jersey

Tell us a little bit about Deloitte:

Deloitte is a leading professional services firm, ranked No. 1 worldwide by Gartner in 2023, and part of a global network spanning 150 countries and territories.

We provide Audit & Assurance, Tax & Legal, Strategy, Risk & Transactions Advisory and Technology & Transformation services to help organisations in the public, private and third sectors.

We’re comprised of approaching 500,000 professionals globally, and our local Jersey team is part of our UK practice. That gives us access to a wide range of specialist skills, which our clients rely on to help them with programmes and projects that are critical to their success.

Whether its digital transformation expertise, sustainability know-how, cyber skills, or financial advice, we help clients meet challenges big and small.

What exciting projects have your team been working on recently? Have you got anything coming up you can talk about?

  • In 2023 we launched our internal Generative AI platform PairD, which was developed by Deloitte’s AI Institute. PairD is designed to help us internally with tasks such as drafting content, writing code and carrying out research safely and securely. Our team in Jersey was among the first to get access to the firm wide platform and since it has been rolled out to over 75,000 Deloitte practitioners
  • We have embedded data analytics into our audit and advisory work for over a decade, and this has become more complex and sophisticated in recent years. We also have our own patented, self-service analytical tool called ‘Spotlight’ which is used as standard on all audit engagements and allows our auditors to test hypotheses, identify and validate exceptions and drive consistency
  • Our Analytics and Modelling team in the Channel Islands have developed a bespoke tool which automates previously very manual processes within Excel. Initially designed to be used in valuations, the application traces all precedents of a target cell across an entire Excel workbook, highlighting dependent cells and high-risk formulae
  • We also have our Deloitte RegTech solutions, Reghub and Regminer. Reghub is a platform that automatically scans the market for regulatory change, provides a central point for controlling and managing compliance across the organisation, and combines all of this with end-to-end traceability. While RegMiner systematically retrieves relevant regulatory information from a broad range of online regulatory sources ensuring the client obtains the most recent data to enable a proactive strategy and adjust policies and procedures to meet regulatory demands, this is also currently being enhanced with GenAI capabilities.

What has been a highlight for Deloitte so far?

Last summer we sponsored an IoD Jersey Leadership event on ‘Navigating Digital Opportunities’, with our fantastic keynote speaker Dr Tim Bottke who is an Associate Professor at SDA Bocconi, Senior Partner at Deloitte and author of ‘Digital Transformation Payday: Navigate the Hype, Lower the Risks, Increase Return on Investments’.

What does the Deloitte team in Jersey do outside of work?

At Deloitte, we have various different sports and social clubs throughout the year including yoga, netball, football, basketball and cricket. We also volunteer to teach numeracy skills to Year 1 children every week as part of our 5 Million Futures charity partnership with Every Child Our Future.

What advice would you give to someone wanting to kickstart their career in technology?

To make use of every learning opportunity that you can, not only through courses and qualifications but also by going to events focussed on the technology sector and building your network through LinkedIn and organisations like Digital Jersey.

2024 predictions in tech?

Generative AI will continue to revolutionise and transform many industries as it continues to become more mainstream and a part of our day to day lives from being something that was previously only familiar to those working in tech. In 2024 the demand for organisations to utilise GenAI will continue to grow, and AI will likely become integrated into organisation’s core platforms such as CRMs and ERP applications.

We also publish annual Tech Trend Insights which you can read here: Tech Trends 2024 | Deloitte Insights where we cover other areas such as the Metaverse and DevEx.
